Mission
The purpose of Oak Orchard Community Health Center is to provide quality, efficient, cost effective primary health care through direct patient services, health promotion and disease prevention. The health center provides family and community oriented services with emphasis on caring for all people in the service area, including those who have problems obtaining health care from traditional sources due to lack of income, transportation, or lack of knowledge of health care available.
History
The Oak Orchard of today was originally founded by the University of Rochester as a migrant health project in 1966. Oak Orchard Community Referral, a forerunner of the present Oak Orchard system, was incorporated in 1973 to assume those efforts. Oak Orchard has grown and now operates three facilities plus a Migrant Mobile Health Unit.
One of the greatest strengths of Oak Orchard is its ability to attract physicians to rural areas without burdening them with the substantial cash outlays necessary to establish an office and build a practice. If it were not for these community-based facilities, patients would be forced to travel to distant cities to be treated in larger, less personal settings for greater expense.
Affiliations
Health center physicians have admitting privileges at Lakeside Memorial Hospital, University of Rochester Medical Center/Strong Memorial Hospital and Rochester General Hospital.
