Spring into Exercise

By Karyn Mesiti, RPA

A sedentary lifestyle is on the top risk factors for many diseases, including heart disease and diabetes. It can also aggravate some symptoms of other diseases, such as arthritis and depression. Regular exercise can lower blood pressure, decrease cholesterol and also help you to lose weight. All of which may result in a 40% less risk of dying of cardiovascular disease. One way to help control blood sugar is with exercise such as low-impact walking. Increasing joint flexibility, muscle strength, and endurance are other benefits to regular exercise.

Some easy ways to sneak exercise into your day are:

Take the stairs instead of the elevator

Go for a walk during a break or lunch at work

Walk to work

Increase the pace at which you do house work

Work around the yard

Regular exercise is a great benefit to your physical as well as mental health. Consistent exercise can help to reduce depression, increase your feeling of well-being, improve self image, and improve how you handle stress. Now that Spring is just around to corner, lets get out and exercise!
