Good Health and Good Nutrition

When you are healthy you feel better and think better. Good nutrition is even more important to pregnant women, new mothers, infants and young children. This is when bones, bodies and minds are forming and growing. This is when you need extra food to stay healthy.

But buying extra food can be hard. You may need help with your food dollars.


How WIC Can Help

WIC is a health and nutrition program. WIC gives you some of the foods needed for good health. With WIC you can get monthly checks to use at grocery stores. You can buy milk, eggs, juice, cheese, cereal, peanut butter, beans and infant formula.

With WIC you can get help with how to use WIC foods and information on other health and nutrition services.


You May Be Eligible

• If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or
• Have an infant or child under five years of age, or
• If you are income eligible, or
• Receive Medicaid or Public Assistance

Program Definition

WIC is a Special Supplemental Food Program for Women, Infants, and Children. WIC provides nutrition education and nutritious foods such as milk, cheese, eggs, juice, cereal, legumes, and iron-fortified infant formula to pregnant, lactating, and postpartum women and young children up to the age of five. In order to qualify for the program and applicant must be determined to be of low income and medically or nutritionally at risk.

Standards for participation in the program are the same for everyone regardless of race, color, national origin, age, sex, handicap, religion or political belief.
