It’s important to your health!
Even if you are not having trouble with your vision or you don’t wear glasses or contacts, your eyes should still be checked regularly. Your eye doctor can uncover problems before symptoms start, and help with early detection of serious health problems like diabetes, high blood pressure, and certain cancers.
Vision screenings (by schools and pediatricians) should not replace a comprehensive eye examination with an eye doctor. Regular eye exams for children can prevent a child from being misdiagnosed as having learning disabilities, when in fact they have eye problems that are often correctable.
An eye examination is like having a physical for your eyes and is recommended every two years at the minimum, sometimes more often to monitor certain conditions. Most insurances cover routine eye care at little or no cost to you.
Doctors of Optometry provide primary eye and vision care to adults and children including diagnosis and treatment, assessment and management, patient education about disease conditions and prevention, and health maintenance.
